Read this, and it's sequels, 20 years ago. A famous literary example is the book The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. By using light, camera angles, and pieces of glass, Gondry created complex illusions such as having a character fade into or pop out of a scene. Impossible to explain its importance so briefly. Find it pretty remarkable that such a list would completely omit any of Dick's work. Travelling alone in the depths of winter, Morlock Ambrosius (bitterly dry drunk, master of all magical makers, wandering swordsman, and son of Merlin Ambrosius and Nimue Viviana), is attacked by an unknown enemy.

Several of his works have returned to the big screen in recent years. Genre stories are set in worlds that are unknown and disparate to us, and we automatically reorder them; at the same time, the main characters set fundamental wrongs to right. Banks' novels (technobabble FTL, handwavium or plot device antigrav, force fields, hyperspace AI, etc, the science and tech is clearly secondary to cultural speculations and the telling of a good story), the Uplift series of David Brin (many alien races, conflicts with Fermi paradox "great silence", also many of these races are based on mammalian or avian forms, but no reason evolution would take the same pathways on other worlds.
