In the Revelation two kinds of people are specially called the servants of God; the prophets (Rev. 10:7; Rev. 11:18; Rev. 22:6), and the martyrs (Rev. 7:3; Rev. 19:2). It is a way of speaking which is strange to modern ears; but there is great symbolism behind it. (i) Behind it is the idea of God as the lover of the souls of his people. Revelation is about "the last things" and the second coming of Jesus, so it makes sense that it comes at the end. This new schema argues that Paul is developing a single argument about universal salvation, but is stopping at key points to consider and address possible Jewish responses to what he has just said.

Lenski is one of the most helpful commentators on the New Testament youll find especially for his knowledge of the original Greek text. Wanting a little more Keener and also looking for an in-depth current commentary on Acts (a story that never grows old for me), I also found Acts: An Exegetical Commentary, Volume I: Introduction and 1:1-2:47. As such, Johnson meant this commentary on John's Gospel to serve as a tool for clergy and religious scholars or students.

Recommendable for its intended goal (growing in Christ) and audience (layperson, Bible study leader). The One Year® Chronological Bible reading plan contains the entire text of the bible arranged in the order the events actually occurred. Beale, Johnson, and Poythress are all better than Hendriksen, but the latter was my first introduction to reading the book in light of the principle of recapitulation (in which the book contains multiple parallel portrayals, each of which describes events during the course of the church age from slightly different perspectives).
