I precisely wanted to say thanks yet again. Kindergarten teachers try to interpret the standards and translate them into developmentally appropriate activities. Subjects could memorize horizontal eye patterns (e.g. left-left-right-right-left-right-left) and repeat the patterns upon becoming lucid, which researchers could observe, all while recording brain activity with an EEG to confirm that the subjects where, in fact, in a dream state. On the other hand, human or computer speaking, with an average speed of 150 wpm, will always remain many times slower than a good reader, without any consideration of the skimming and skipping possibilities.

Students who struggle with reading often have a difficult time breaking words down into their individual sounds, and even in hearing each of these sounds, i.e. phonemic awareness skills.
