If the reflected sound is so soft as to be covered (masked) by the primary sound, it will obviously not make the slightest difference except in the pauses. These fractions remained the same regardless of the carbon content of the rod or the stress applied to it. In the case of an electron, these frequencies are called eigenfrequencies and the states associated with these frequencies are called eigenstates or eigenfunctions. The physics of the propagation of sound is immensely complicated, and when the assortment of materials that make up the walls, floors and ceiling (plus any windows, doors and furniture) are added to the equation, it's very difficult to predict what will happen to sound waves once they've left their source.
